The best of my latest necklaces. All five of them are worn rather tight against the neck, with a focal piece hanging down the middle. This is my favorite style at the moment. It is very easy to wear with any garment that is v-necked.
Taking these pictures, I spent some time testing different settings on my camera. Finally I achieved quite good lighting indoors. During this shoot I used a very shallow focal depth, it looks pretty cool but it makes it difficut to really see what the jewelry pieces look like.
The crafty sisters (Tina and myself) spent a hot Saturday taking a class in jewelry-making with metal clay. This is certainly very different from beading! You play around with clay, very expensive clay that dries extremely fast. It's sort of cement-colored, so it's hard to imagine you are making something in silver. It was a beginners' class so we made very simple, flat things, mainly pendants. Here is aphoto of the best one that came home with me. It's a flat piece, folded back to make a loop, and with the word "LOVE" carved:
We used Art Clay Silver which is a Japanese product similar to PMC. It is made entirely of recycled silver. After you have crafted your piece in clay, it needs to dry, and then fix the surface a bit before it goes in the oven (kiln?). When the clay is dry but still clay, it is very, very brittle. I managed to trip on a chair and a couple of pieces fell to the ground and broke :-(. I made a sketch of the piece I was most proud of, it's supposed to be a version of an "M" (for Maria). The people giving the class are going to try and fix it. Anyway, this is sort of what it looked like:
