My latest necklace was difficult to photograph without a model, but here goes... The necklace is such that it can be worn in many different ways, wrapped one, two, or three times around the neck. I have linked white, black, and silver-colored beads and pearls. This necklace will really add some attitude to an otherwise strict and dull outfit!
I made this pendant in the shape of the letter "M", wanting to try something a bit different with the coiling technique. The choice of beads was sort of "take whatever you have", I would have preferred stones with irregular shapes at a size inbetween the small black firepolished beads and large smoke quartz nuggets.
Coiling is a technique that I have quite recently discovered. It was (I think) first used by the very talented artist Eni Oken. I initially came across it on a Swedish beading forum where the equally talented SuzyQ has posted some of her pieces. These earrings are my first attempt at coiling. I didn't use the technique as intented, however I am very pleased with the result! In three weeks I will be attempting an afternoon coiling course for beginners where SuzyQ (Susanna Segerholm) is the teacher. Looking forward to it!
This weekend I have been behind my camera quite a few hours. I really, really wanted to get better at taking pictures of jewelry indoors. After having tried some 50 different camera settings, I know which ones work the best given the lighting conditions in my "studio" (i.e. our guest bedroom). I want to be able to take creative photos. The picture above is one that I am particularly pleased with. Will post more photos when I have processed them and selected the best ones!
Here is a picture of the photo studio I set up. The dresser is rather high, and I'm sort of short, so I have to stand on a chair in order to get the right angle.
The best of my latest necklaces. All five of them are worn rather tight against the neck, with a focal piece hanging down the middle. This is my favorite style at the moment. It is very easy to wear with any garment that is v-necked.
Taking these pictures, I spent some time testing different settings on my camera. Finally I achieved quite good lighting indoors. During this shoot I used a very shallow focal depth, it looks pretty cool but it makes it difficut to really see what the jewelry pieces look like.
I made this prototype of a tiara for my wedding to see if the style would suit me. Hm, I think it does! This one is not so steady, I had no tiara base so I just used wire. I have ordered a tiara base and it should arrive any day now. White, clear, and green are the colors I will use, with freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, and pehaps some clear glass chips. I like the irregular shapes of the beads in this tiara.
At the end of April I will be a married woman! About time, some might say, considering my age (37). We booked the church already in October, but the rest of the planning is happening this side of new year. So far we have found a restaurant for the dinner, I have tried out a gorgeous two-piece wedding dress, and I have found a ring that I like. The Swedish tradition is that the couple exchanges plain gold rings at the engagement, and then the woman gets another ring (with or without diamonds) during the wedding ceremony.
Here are links to to dress I will probably be getting:
Of course I will be making jewelry for myself and my bridesmaids. For my hair I want to make a tiara. My inspiration comes from Lavish Design and Azahar Tiaras (by my VOX neighbor Pavoreal).
